2022 MGVB Team Placement and Try-Out Wrap-up
Aug 17, 2022, 5:39 pm

Good Afternoon Crimson Athletes and Families!

It is hard to believe that our season and school year are upon us again already!  We are so excited to have the girls back out on the courts and I have to say how impressed I have been over the past three days with what these young women brought to tryouts!  We had a good turnout this year with over 80 athletes registering to fill the available slots for our five program teams. It is never easy to put yourself out there for others to evaluate and judge but these girls did it amazingly! They worked hard, supported each other, and honestly looked like they were having fun being out on the courts. These are the hardest days of the season for both athletes and coaches and unfortunately we will be making some cuts this season as there are limitations on roster sizes and available positional slots.

Below I am listing the tryout numbers for the athletes chosen for each of the designated teams. If your athlete does not see their number on the list, they have not made one of our program teams this season.  In that event or if your athlete has questions about their team placement, I would ask that THEY reach out to me directly with a message and I will personally follow-up with them to answer their questions. Coaches will be having meetings with athletes starting tomorrow to discuss and clarify roles and expectations to ensure alignment.
I am extremely proud of EACH and EVERY one of these girls and am excited to watch them continue to grow on and off the court!

2022 Season Kick Off Meeting @ Maple Grove Senior High, Auditorium

Thursday, Aug 18, 6:30 PM

Doors will open at 6 PM for athlete check in, apparel purchase and contact information verification.

  • Completion of the district registration for the program through your SmartSchoolK12 portal account is required BEFORE an athlete can set foot on the court for try-outs. REGISTRATION OPENS AUG 1!

  • This includes having the required athletics physical on file with the Activities Office AND payment of the $190 district activities fees (refunded if athlete does not make a team). FREE High School Sports Physicals are available through TRIA Orthopedics. If your family qualifies for free/reduced lunch, you can apply to receive support on the Districts Activity Fee.

  • Tryout evaluation will look at not only Individual Skills, Court IQ, and Interactive Gameplay as well as Attitude, Effort, Sportsmanship, and Other Traits while On/Off Court.

  • Teams will be filled based on the evaluation results with input from all coaches involved with try-outs.

  • The program has limits on the total number of players per team as well as the number of athletes needed for any given position.

  • While we try to limit them, there can be cuts resulting from tryouts either based on the total number of athletes OR number of players vying for specific positions.

  • There is an additional participation fee through the MGVB Boosters as part of the management of the program (typically under $200). We will be taking payment for this fee at our Fall Kick Off Meeting on Thursday, August 18.

Hello Crimson Families!

Can you believe that tryouts are less than 3 weeks away!?!  This season is coming at us fast and the Crimson VB coaching staff can't wait!

MGVB will be holding our annual Pre-Season Captains' Practice sessions August 8th- August 12th. These sessions are run by the program's varsity summer captains with oversight by MGVB Booster Board Members.  They are meant to give opportunities for athletes to get some touches on the ball, get to know others in the program better, and get geared up to compete prior to tryouts the following week.

***NOTE that this is an OPTIONAL event and has NO impact on program try-out results***

WHO - Any Student / Athletes aligned to Maple Grove HS in 7th - 12th Grades
